Dog Tags in Fashion
Dog tags have been used as jewellery items for a while now. One of the first instances where they appeared on the catwalk was in the 1971 Safari Collection of Rudi Gernreich. Always a challenging designer and renowned as the inventor of the 'Monokini' (a topless bathing suit), Gernreich caused as stir with his Harmon knitwear collection when the models appeared in his designs accessorised with Mao caps, desert boots, dog tags and rifles.
The Cincinnati Art Museum has a new exhibition called 'The Total Look' which showcases Gernreich's work. Opening on the 28th February 2015, the exhibition will run until the 24th May 2015. For more details, visit the Cincinnati Art Museum.
